Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that is concerned with diagnosing, preventing, and correcting malocclusion or crooked teeth. Paradise Valley Orthodontics involves the use of braces or other oral appliances to straighten the teeth and correct bite alignment problems. Our Paradise Valley orthodontist can determine the best course of treatment to fix a patient’s specific concern.
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of orthodontic treatment. This bracket and wire system is used by our Paradise Valley orthodontist as an effective way to straighten teeth, align your bite, and reduce discomfort throughout the treatment process.
Metal braces are the go-to method for correcting complex bite issues. The brackets are attached to the teeth with a bonding material using a special light that helps the adhesive harden and secure them in place. Once placed, the metal wires are then connected to the brackets with elastic bands. These are the “power” behind traditional braces as they apply a gentle force on the teeth to move them into the correct position.
As each tooth moves into its proper place, new rubber bands are added to continue applying that pressure until the teeth are in their final positions.
Ceramic braces are similar to traditional braces. The only difference between the two is the material that the brackets are made from. While metal brackets are typically silver or gold in color, ceramic brackets are clear to better blend in with your teeth.
Because ceramic braces are made from a nonporous material, they are more stain-resistant than traditional metal braces. Many adults prefer ceramic braces due to their cosmetic benefits. They are considered less noticeable, especially for adults who don’t want their appliances to be the focus of their smile.
Invisalign is a series of invisible, removable aligners that straighten your teeth without brackets or wires. You wear each set of aligners for about one to two weeks at a time to gradually move your teeth into the desired position.
As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will gradually move into position, following a custom treatment plan mapped out by our dentist. Unlike traditional braces, there are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten – just clear, convenient comfort that gives you every reason to smile!
